One Support is at the forefront of designing and developing extra care housing, a new concept in housing for older people that is revolutionising the traditional concept of retirement housing.
Designed to meet the needs and aspirations of older people, extra care housing allows customers to live independently and continue to play an active part in their community, whilst providing the care and support that they may need over time. Modern and stylish in design, schemes are located in desirable settings, where people would actively choose and aspire to live.
Key features include:
- Maximising space to avoid the look and feel of institutional care
- Embracing assistive technology to promote independence
- Providing a safe and secure and safe environment that enhances quality of life
Our vision for older people’s housing is driven by a focus on the customer, their needs, aspirations and rights. It is founded on the principle that quality housing and support services improve the lives of vulnerable older people through the promotion of independence and re-ablement.
One Support was commissioned and funded by the housing corporation and Department of Health Care and Services Partnership to research new models for financing older people’s housing. Completed in August 2008, the project explores how older people can maximise choice and control over their retirement housing options by using equity from their homes.
