Aids and Adaptations are available to those who need to have their homes altered or adapted due to a lack of mobility or disability.
One Housing Group offers a wide range of assistance to residents with these special requirements enabling them to maintain a good quality of life in their own homes. We carry out Aids and Adaptations based on individual needs.
Generally, adaptation works are divided into two categories – minor and major. Below are examples of typical Aids and Adaptations:
Minor Works:
- Mopstick grab rails (e.g. in bedroom or hallway)
- Plastic grab rails (e.g. in WC)
- Bannister stair rails
- External metal handrails
- Small ramps
- Step modifications
- Adapting taps (e.g. wash hand basin or bath)
- Relocation of control switches and sockets
Major Works:
- Stairlifts, hoists, through floor lifts
- Overbath showers and tiling
- Level access showers with non-slip flooring
- Clos-o-mat toilets
- Large ramps and handrails
- Eligibility
OHG will normally consider requests if:
- Those requiring assistance are the named resident on the tenancy agreement or
- Their partner or a member of their immediate family are named and they are a permanent resident in the household
- Adaptations are normally only carried out based on medical needs, and as deemed necessary by an occupational therapist.
If you believe a minor or major adaptation is needed, please contact the social services department at your local council, details of which can be found
here.
Social services will then refer you to the Occupational Therapy department in order for your needs to be assessed. Following your assessment, the Occupational Therapist will forward any pertinent information such as any formal recommendations. If a recommendation is made, OHG will contact you with further information regarding ordering the work.
